At Sara Gillianne Wedding and Events, we know that each and every event we do is only as good as the vendors that surround us. This is why we are so excited to introduce you to some of our absolute favorites over the coming weeks!
Today’s featured vendor is Sunshine Designs Florist. Owned and operated by husband and wife duo, David and Sara Seeley, their specialty is brightening any day with fresh and beautiful flowers.
We recently chatted with Sara all about weddings, flowers, and the ins and outs of their budding business.
Sara Gillianne: Tell us about you and your business.
Sunshine Designs: Ten years ago as I was starting college, I met some friends who worked at a flower shop. It happened to be around Valentine’s Day when I found myself in need of a part time job. Fast forward six years… Same job, same friends, earned the diploma, married my favorite person, and eventually, my flower boss decided to throw in the towel. After the flower shop closed and my husband’s long days managing a millwork facility were keeping us newlyweds apart far too often, we were ready for a change. That change became our baby, but not (yet) the adorable, crying, keep-you-up-all-night kind of baby. It was the business-venturing, people-meeting, creativity-inspiring, passion-invoking type of baby that each of us craved. Fast forward four more years to today and Sunshine Designs is now three years old! Since we opened our doors, our little flower place has grown exponentially and continues to reward us with encounters and experiences that we never expected. It has been such a fast and crazy journey, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to see where it takes us next.
SG: How long have you been in the wedding industry?
SD: This month officially marks my 10th year and David’s fourth year!
SG: Congratulations! Tell us the funniest moment that you have ever witnessed at a wedding.
SD: During a fall wedding we had this past season, we were doing a late night cleanup in downtown Pensacola and as we were getting our things together, one of the wedding guests returned to the venue. He stumbled out of his taxi, staggered inside, apologized profusely, and then handed us a plastic cake plate. We thanked him, he got back in his cab, and he took off down Palafox. I think that wedding was a success!
SG: Haha! What a gentleman. What do you love most about weddings?
SD: My absolute favorite thing about weddings is wedding day setup. I love seeing the bride and groom’s vision and personality come to life. It is so touching to see all of their hard work and planning come together and really encompass their story. There are so many feels you get to witness on the wedding day and it always brings me back to when my hubby and I got to marry each other.
SG: What is the most unique attribute of your business?
SD: We want to be there for our clients each and every step of the way; we want them to be involved in the planning process as much or as little as they’d like. Every detail of our clients’ proposal is fully customizable. We want them to see their flowers on their wedding day and feel like what they envisioned is staring back at them. If clients need to Skype with hubby-to-be who is away in the military, or if we need to get together with the bride and maid of honor after hours because she works a tough schedule, or if they just need a second opinion at their cake tasting appointment, we love to be there for our clients in any way we can (plus, we really like cake).
SG: What is your busiest month?
SD: Although last summer was super consistent, spring and fall are typically busiest for us. March, May, and October always seem to take the cake!
SG: You really do like cake! What is one thing you wish your brides knew about you?
SD: 1. We know what you’re going through! We’ve totally experienced the same uncertainties, fears, doubts, frustrations, angst, and nervousness that you are likely going to encounter during the wedding planning process. There is a lot to think about and although it is a fun process, it can also be a little stressful. We are here to help you through all of it. Because we’ve been through the process from all sides, we want to do everything we can to share our experiences with you and make your day run as smoothly as possible.
2. No matter what, it always works out in the end.
We are so happy to partner with Sunshine Designs and can never get over how beautiful their floral arrangements and bouquets are!
